Artist Statement

It’s not business. It’s strictly personal.

After a career in commercial photography, with fine art always lurking in the shadows, I’m now making photographs for the reason I planned on in the first place – to make art. A long-time interest in photomontage goes back to early experiments and happy accidents in the darkroom and with in-camera double exposures. I often see individual photographs as a point of departure, fodder for blending nature, artifacts, or people with other images. When not finding new pictures in nature, I’m going through the analog archives, scanning, bridging the past with the present, and making prints. It’s like having a new box of crayons.
